Your Used IBCs Have Real Value
Many businesses treat spent IBC totes as waste, paying disposal fees to haul them away. That is money leaving your pocket twice — once for the disposal cost and again for the lost material value locked inside every container.
Baltimore IBC Recycling's buyback program flips that equation. We pay you a competitive price for your used containers, handle all logistics, and ensure every tote is either reconditioned for reuse or responsibly recycled. It is the simplest way to recover value from surplus inventory while meeting sustainability goals.

IBC Types We Purchase
We accept virtually every type of intermediate bulk container. If it has an HDPE bottle, a steel cage, or stainless steel construction, we want it.
Standard 275-Gallon HDPE Totes
The most common IBC — we buy these in any condition year-round.
330-Gallon HDPE Totes
Larger capacity totes used in food, beverage, and chemical industries.
Rebottled / Recaged IBCs
Previously reconditioned containers still have value in our program.
Stainless Steel IBCs
High-value stainless units used in pharmaceutical and food-grade applications.
Composite IBCs
Plastic bottle with steel cage — we process both components.
Damaged or End-of-Life IBCs
Cracked bottles, bent cages, broken valves — we still pay for recyclable material value.
We Buy IBCs in Any Condition
Unlike some competitors who only buy pristine, food-grade containers, our buyback program accepts IBCs across the full condition spectrum. Containers in better condition earn higher prices, but even end-of-life units have recyclable material value.
Grade A — Excellent
Clean, food-grade. Intact bottle, cage, valve, and pallet. Minimal cosmetic wear. One-trip or lightly used. Highest buyback price.
Grade B — Good
Functional with moderate use. May have some staining, minor cage dents, or cosmetic scuffs. Bottle holds liquid without leaks.
Grade C — Fair
Heavy wear, significant staining, or residue. Cage may be bent. Suitable for reconditioning or recycling. Moderate buyback value.
Grade D — Recyclable Only
Cracked bottles, collapsed cages, broken valves, or chemical contamination. We still pay for the raw material value of HDPE and steel.
What Determines Your Buyback Price
Container Condition
Clean, food-grade totes with intact bottles and cages command the highest prices. Even damaged units have recyclable material value.
Previous Contents
IBCs that held food-grade liquids (juice, syrup, soap) are worth more than those that contained hazardous chemicals requiring specialized cleaning.
Quantity
Larger volumes qualify for premium per-unit rates. A single truckload of 56+ totes earns a higher price per container than smaller batches.
Market Demand
Reconditioned IBC prices fluctuate with supply and demand. When inventory is low, buyback prices increase — we always pay current market rates.
Container Age & Type
Newer containers with recent manufacture dates and UN/DOT ratings are more desirable. Stainless steel IBCs hold higher per-unit value.
Every Buyback Keeps Plastic Out of Landfills
A single 275-gallon IBC tote contains approximately 130 lbs of HDPE plastic and 80 lbs of steel. When these containers end up in landfills, those materials are lost forever — and they take centuries to decompose.
By selling your IBCs through our buyback program, you are directly contributing to a circular economy. Containers in good condition are reconditioned and reused. End-of-life units are recycled into HDPE pellets and scrap steel that become new products — closing the loop completely.
Buyback Pricing Factors at a Glance
Every quote we provide is based on a transparent set of factors. Here is exactly how we evaluate your containers.
| Factor | Impact on Price | What We Look For | Typical Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Container Condition | High | Structural integrity of bottle, cage, valve, and pallet. No cracks, leaks, or warping. | $15 - $75+ per unit |
| Container Age | Medium | Manufacture date stamp. Containers less than 5 years old are preferred for reconditioning. | Newer = 20-30% premium |
| Brand & Manufacturer | Medium | Schütz, Mauser, Greif, and Snyder containers hold higher resale value due to quality reputation. | Premium brands = 10-20% more |
| Quantity | High | Bulk quantities of 20+ qualify for volume premiums. Full truckloads (56+) earn the best per-unit rate. | 5-15% volume premium |
| Previous Contents | High | Food-grade contents (juice, syrup, soap) are most valuable. Hazardous chemicals reduce value. | Food-grade = highest value |
| Location | Low-Medium | Pickups within Baltimore metro are free. Greater distances may have modest transport deductions. | Free within 30 miles |
| UN/DOT Rating | Medium | Valid UN31HA1 or UN31HZ1 ratings with current date codes add reconditioning resale value. | Valid rating = 10-15% more |
| Market Demand | Variable | Current supply and demand for reconditioned IBCs. Low inventory periods mean higher buyback prices. | Fluctuates seasonally |

Brands We Buy
What We Cannot Accept
While we accept IBCs in virtually any condition, there are certain categories we cannot purchase due to safety, regulatory, or environmental constraints. If you are unsure whether your containers qualify, contact us — we are happy to evaluate.
Radioactive Material Containers
Containers that held any radioactive substances require specialized disposal facilities. We cannot process these.
Infectious / Biohazard Waste Containers
IBCs that stored medical waste, biological specimens, or pathogenic materials must follow regulated medical waste disposal channels.
Explosive or Pyrotechnic Residue
Containers with residues from explosives, ammunition components, or pyrotechnic materials are excluded for safety.
PCB-Contaminated Containers
Polychlorinated biphenyl contamination requires EPA-regulated disposal that falls outside our recycling capabilities.
Asbestos-Containing Materials
Any containers that held asbestos slurries, insulation materials, or asbestos-contaminated liquids cannot be processed.
Unknown or Unlabeled Contents
We can test and identify most residues, but containers with completely unknown contents may require lab analysis (additional cost) before acceptance.
How to Prepare Your IBCs for Pickup
Following these simple steps ensures the fastest pickup, best pricing, and smoothest experience for your team.
Drain All Contents
Ensure IBCs are fully drained of product. Invert briefly if needed to empty residual liquid from the bottom. We accept containers with minor residue, but empty containers earn higher prices and speed up our process.
Close All Valves
Securely close the bottom discharge valve and tighten the top fill cap. This prevents any remaining residue from leaking during transport and protects our crew during loading.
Keep Labels Visible
Do not remove existing product labels, SDS markings, or hazard placards. We use these to determine the correct handling protocol and cleaning chemistry, which affects your buyback price.
Stage for Access
Position IBCs in an area accessible by our truck. Ground level or loading dock access is ideal. If containers are indoors, ensure hallways and doorways are wide enough for a pallet jack (minimum 48 inches).
Separate by Condition
If possible, group containers by condition (clean vs. residue, intact vs. damaged). This speeds up our assessment process and ensures you receive the best possible price for your higher-grade units.
Have a Count Ready
An accurate container count helps us bring the right truck and crew. Let us know the approximate number, types (275 vs. 330 gallon, composite vs. stainless), and general condition when scheduling.

Service Area for Buyback Pickup
We provide free IBC buyback pickup across the entire Baltimore metro area and greater Maryland. Pickups beyond our standard service radius are evaluated on a case-by-case basis — we frequently travel to Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, and Washington D.C. for larger quantities.
The Environmental Impact of Your Sale
Every IBC you sell through our buyback program has a measurable positive impact on the environment. Here is what your contribution achieves.
Each container contains approximately 130 lbs of HDPE and 80 lbs of steel that stays out of landfills.
Recycling or reusing one IBC avoids 43 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions compared to virgin material production.
HDPE plastic takes over 450 years to decompose in a landfill. Selling your IBCs prevents centuries of environmental burden.
Manufacturing a new IBC from virgin materials uses approximately 1,750 gallons of water. Reconditioning uses a fraction of that.
